WHAT ABOUT A REVERSE OSMOSIS WATER FILTER?

When do I need one and what is the best reverse osmosis filter?

If you are concerned about such contaminants as trivalent or hexavalent chromium, fluoride, radon and some others, even the best carbon block filters like Multipure's will not do the job. In fact NO carbon filter system alone will filter these contaminants from your drinking water. That is why in these cases we recommend a reverse osmosis water filter.

Whether or not you are willing to live with the microscopic amounts of such things as fluoride, arsenic, trivalent chromium, and so on in your water is a personal choice. Personally I have chosen to live with fluoride and some other contaminants that a carbon block filter system cannot reduce because I do not wish to use a reverse osmosis filter. Why?

The reason I do not use a reverse osmosis water filter is that I would rather keep the minerals in my tap water, and reverse osmosis water filters take out all the minerals. Also, I do not believe that these tiny amounts of some contaminants will do me any harm.

It's all relative. One cannot live completely free of chemicals. They are in the air, in the food we eat and virtually everywhere. Of course I want to filter the vast majority of harmful contaminants from the water I drink which is why I use a Multipure carbon block filter! But I feel that a reverse osmosis water filter is overkill. Many people feel differently and that is why we sell the best reverse osmosis water filter that money can buy as well as the best carbon block water filter systems.

Certainly water that is run through a reverse osmosis water filter is the most free from contaminants. And if you do want a Reverse Osmosis water filter system, Multipure's NSF-Certified Aquacomplete reverse osmosis filter system is the best, for several reasons.

First of all, like all Multipure water filter systems, our RO system is NSF Certified! (Click the link to read why this is so very important!)

Secondly, when you use the patented Zero Waste Retro Fit Kit with it (see Accessories), our reverse osmosis water filter wastes zero water! This is in contrast to normal Reverse Osmosis water filters which waste as much as 12 gallons of water for every 1 gallon produced! (NOT green!)

Many believe fluoride is harmful to health yet it is added into most U.S. cities' water supplies. The reasons it is added to our drinking water are complex, and - some would say - insane. A google search on the subject of fluoride will bring up enough links to keep you occupied for days. If you are concerned please read this page All About Fluoride. If, after reading about it, you decide fluoride is not for you and your family, please return here and buy the best Reverse Osmosis water filter system that reduces fluoride, hexavalent chromium, trivalent chromium, radon, nitrates, arsenic, and so on. (Read the full list of contaminants reduced here.)

The bottom line: the Multipure Reverse Osmosis water filter system filters out more contaminants than any other form of filtration, as it combines osmosis water filter technology with carbon block filter technology. It is very important that both systems are used because neither alone can remove as many contaminants.

While the initial investment of our reverse osmosis filter system may seem like a lot, remember that it has a lifetime warranty on the housing and that the investment in your health is one that is very worthwhile for you and your family.

So how does a Reverse Osmosis water filter work?

The Multipure Aquacomplete Unit is easy to install and simple to operate. It uses no electricity and the impurities removed through the reverse osmosis process are flushed down the drain. The pre-filter component provides 5 micron filtration to remove large particulate matter and extend the life of the reverse osmosis membrane. The reverse osmosis component reduces the level of Total Dissolved Solids (TDS), rust, dirt scale, and organic tastes and odors. The processed water is conveniently stored in a 3 gallon pressurized tank which is small enough to fit neatly under your sink.

Multipure's Aquacomplete Unit includes pre-filter, RO membrane, and Multipure’s Aquaversa carbon filter as a post-filter, giving you the highest quality water possible.

Multipure’s Aquacomplete System features FIVE Stages of filtration giving you performance that no other reverse osmosis filter can provide. By combining Multipure’s superior carbon block filter technology with state-of-the-art reverse osmosis, you will receive the highest quality drinking water possible.

Here’s how it works:

Stage 1:
The Sediment Pre-Filter screens out particles down to 5 microns, improving the appearance of your water.

Stage 2 & Stage 3: Carbon Block Pre-Filters -- next, water passes through two 5 micron Carbon Block Pre-Filters that ensure that chlorine and other materials that cause your water to taste and smell bad are reduced.

Stage 4: The RO Membrane is a high-production, 50 gpd, thin film composite semipermeable membrane that separates unwanted inorganic impurities, such as nitrates, fluoride, etc. from your water. This hyperfiltration membrane reduces salts, certain heavy metals, and other impurities, giving you great tasting water.

Stage 5: The Carbon Block Post-Filter, the final stage of the water treatment process, provides the most efficient contaminant removal possible. Multipure’s densely compacted carbon block filter mechanically intercepts particles as small as 0.5 micron (sub micron) as well as electrokinectically adsorbs particles by attracting the negative ions of certain contaminants. In addition, the carbon block filter has a large surface area for chemical/physical adsorption to take place, reducing many different organic chemicals, pesticides, herbicides
and certain heavy metals.

Multipure’s Aquacomplete Osmosis System delivers safe, deliciously clear drinking water that is convenient and affordable.

What About Distilling Water?

Distilled water is achieved by boiling water, then water vapor rises to a condenser where cooling water lowers the temperature so the vapor is condensed, collected and stored. Pesiticides and herbicides cannot be removed efficiently and can actually become concentrated in the product water. This method is also not cost effective, using lots of water and electricity.

Another problem is that distilled water has a low pH; it is very acidic. Though it is controversial, some say this type of water is not healthy for the human body. Distilled water is often called "dead" or "hungry" water. It lacks oxygen and minerals and has a flat taste, which is why it is mostly used only in industrial applications.

Multipure does not make a distillation system nor do I recommend them. If you want to filter out more than a carbon block filters can do, then please buy our reverse osmosis filter.

If you have any questions, please contact me here. It is my hope that everyone will get off the plastic bottle habit and Go Green by using a filter that is certified by NSF to reduce the widest range of contaminants - a reverse osmosis filter or a carbon block filter!

Thanks! And good health to you! We hope you have been able to decide today, with our help, what is the best water filter for you!
